Umbrella Tree.
The most overwhelming sense of tranquillity, Is for me the greatest all the park has to offer, I found that while laying on my back staring into the tree canopy & trees around me offered some shelter from the elements and blanketing the background noise in a shroud of silence. the tall arching bodies of the drunks and weaving reaching branches knitting a simple delicate and rather entrancing pattern. More so for my own dwindling state of optical disorientation.
This same place earlier declared most suitable location for red ribbons was at best a small jungle like trek to enter as the trees fingers whipped against me. I wanted to recreate this sense of being enclosed and yet open offering a sight for all situations.
decking circle base around tree and slanted shelter around upper raise section, add chalk board sectioning. The top umbrella could be made to fold down ward wrapping around tree trunk allowing protection from weather, would/could also make rather interesting form. bevel curved wood is possible ( I know it it, but cost is factor) Could the wrapping and unwrapping be made accessible to public or would health and safety be a no no?
sit, lay contemplation, perfect for me to sit and read, create multiple could later be used as outdoor seating for dog walker cafe.
Birds nest, crows nest form of tree, from shipping design, also used in early trains, so combines mass movement industrialisation and the financial rejuvenation of Glasgow through shipping, originally vastly changed and shifted placement of wealth and system of class ( class system).
education etc. wealth and history of park expansion development of generalised populous. idea of wealth signifying class distinction
relate to current financial climate down fall of 'white collar' office ethereal products shift to retail, park its self income tourist age, Not members of community /area who might benefit directly.
non use of art house other facilities, encourage use public to attend
'observtion deck' normally children starting out in career working on sea, pre-dated iron shipping goes back further high of public recognition of 'crows nest' likely 1800's pirates ma matey etc.
look out to nature, area around observation integrate elements education into relaxation & contemplation. change individual, if later co opted into outdoor benching ( dog walkers) involvement of local youths teaching skill, own value and value of the space perhaps some element of glasgows history could be incorporated, information on who built each 'umbrella'.
